Fertility Checks

What is a Fertility Check?

Whether you are planning to start a family or already trying to conceive, you may wish to have an appointment to assess your reproductive health or ascertain any potential fertility problems. We recognise that fertility problems can be distressing and difficult. We will provide you with the holistic care and support that you require.

84% of couples conceive naturally within one year. Some couples, however, experience fertility problems and may still not have conceived after one year of regular, unprotected sex. This is usually the point at which further investigation is recommended.

At all fertility assessments, our consultants will advise you and your partner on lifestyle measures to optimise fertility.

We are able to perform hormone blood tests to assess your fertility, including AMH, which assesses ovarian reserve. A pelvic ultrasound scan will assess for any structural abnormalities and more detailed scans, such as a HyCoSy can be performed to assess fallopian tube patency.

We are able to offer follicle tracking, using ultrasound scanning to accurately detect ovulation and optimise your chances of becoming pregnant. This is especially useful for women who have irregular menstrual cycles.

Our consultants may prescribe you medication, such as clomifene, to help encourage more regular ovulation and hence aid conception.

We have links with male fertility experts and will refer male partners to Andrology Solutions to be assessed for sperm analysis and infection screening.

If other measures fail, our consultants can refer you to a specialist in assisted conception (IVF and IUI). We work very closely with The Centre for Reproductive & Genetic Health.
